The Gift of a Happy Holiday
Every child deserves a happy holiday season. However, thousands of Coastal Bend children are at risk of not having such an experience. The Corpus Christi Caller-Times Children's Christmas Appeal (Christmas Appeal) is an annual initiative powered by the Corpus Christi Caller-Times, United Way of the Coastal Bend and area agencies that provides local children with the happy holiday they desire. Christmas Appeal has raised millions of dollars since its inception in 1973 – touching the lives of countless children in need.
How it Works
The Corpus Christi Caller-Times shares stories of children whose families were recommended for a feature by Coastal Bend agencies. Recommended families are often in crisis due to medical problems, a death in the family, job loss or a similar situation and aren't able to provide gifts. These stories are shared in the hopes that readers will donate to the cause.
Overhead costs are covered by the Corpus Christi Caller-Times, United Way of the Coastal Bend and participating agencies so 100% of the proceeds go toward helping the children, providing them with gifts or the means to purchase what they've asked for. Many times, the desired gift items are basic items like a bed, new clothes and other necessities.
