An Early Start to a Brighter Future
Every child deserves the opportunity to live life to their fullest potential.
Success By 6 promotes and improves the quality of early childhood learning and development. The Initiative's work addresses the needs of children and families - from prenatal to the first day of kindergarten.
Our mission is to develop and support a sustainable, community-based system of coordinated services that are child-focused, family-driven and meets the health and development needs of children in Nueces County.
Supporting children in our community
Many local families struggle with income and/or food insecurity, unemployment and other issues that can have negative, long-lasting effects on children. Recent data shows that many children in our community do not have the necessary motor, verbal or cognitive skills needed to successfully enter kindergarten.
United Way of the Coastal Bend formed the Success By 6 Early Childhood Initiative (Success By 6) to reduce barriers that may prevent children from experiencing healthy, safe, learning environments. Working collaboratively, Success By 6 aims to ensure children arrive at school healthy and ready to learn. We focus on the needs of the whole child – their physical, intellectual and emotional health – and preparing families and childcare workers to deliver the care, support and education children need to be successful.
Help Me Grow Coastal Bend
The newest Success By 6 Initiative, Help Me Grow Coastal Bend, provides families with supportive tools to enhance and monitor their children’s learning and development through free developmental screenings and parenting group activities. In addition, families will be able to use Help Me Grow's Findhelp web-based platform to search and access services such as preschool, maternal health, and basic needs. This collaborative effort strengthens community partnerships and referrals between agencies to ensure families get the help they need when they need it.

AGES & STAGES QUESTIONNAIRE
Because your child's first 5 years of life are so important, we want to help you provide the best start for your child. The Ages & Stages Questionnaires, Third Edition (ASQ-3), helps you keep track of your child's development. The questionnaire may be provided every 2-, 4- or 6-month period.
You will be asked to answer questions about some things your child can and cannot do. The questionnaire includes questions about your child's communication, gross motor, fine motor, problem solving, and personal social skills.
