CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS - To increase awareness about the importance of prenatal care, the Success By 6 Early Childhood Coalition sponsored a Healthy Mom, Healthy Baby! community drive-through event on Jan. 30 for expectant mothers and those preparing for pregnancy.
“Data shows that roughly one-third of all pregnant women in Nueces County do not receive adequate care and support early in their pregnancies,” said Sherry Peterson, Success By 6 Director at United Way of the Coastal Bend. “This care is especially important because it can influence the future terms of their pregnancy as well as the health of both mother and infant.”
Those attending received free supplies such as diapers, oral hygiene kits, a voucher for a free car seat, and other resources to support the health and development of both mother and baby. One lucky mom-to-be was also selected to win a free jogging stroller.
Success By 6 is a community coalition established by United Way of the Coastal Bend. The initiative provides support for child-focused and family-driven services working to meet the health and development needs of children in Nueces County. To learn more about Success By 6, click here.
