Free drop-off tax return prep available to those who earned $66,000 or less

A collaborative partnership of United Way of the Coastal Bend is helping eligible taxpayers prepare and electronically file their tax returns free of charge.

The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program is providing free drop-off tax preparation to those whose 2020 household income was $66,000 or less. Those who qualify can drop-off their tax documents at one of four VITA sites in Corpus Christi to have their tax returns prepared for free by an IRS-certified VITA volunteer.

"In previous years, we've offered these services on a walk-in basis at multiple locations throughout the Coastal Bend," said Donna Hurley, Vice President of Community Impact for United Way of the Coastal Bend. "Due to COVID-19, we've been forced to limit the number of VITA sites and transition to a drop-off service model to continue safely providing this vital service to the community."

Those wanting to take advantage of this free service can find the list of tax documents needed for drop-off at www.uwcb.org/vita. Most sites will open in early February and will offer preparation services during site hours through this year’s tax deadline: April 15, 2021.
